Carys Gaylor & Marc Zayat in Bigger People

Two Actorum members Carys Gaylor and Marc Zayat worked with Pentabus Theatre and The Local Group to develop work-in-progress performances of Bigger People.

Written by Róise Goan and directed by Pentabus’ Artistic Director Sophie Motley the show explored the experience of being a fat person in a world that works hard to make you smaller. The show was supported by Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray and Cork Midsummer Festival.

Chris Porter in Theatre by the Lake’s Summer Season

Chris Porter is appearing in three shows of Theatre by the Lake’s 2019 Summer Season.

Chris plays Constabel Macdonald & Mrs Tromleyton in The Ladykillers, Ray Say in The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice and Dr Ash in Dear Uncle, in the season which runs until 2nd November.

Delighted to be part of the company, Chris writes:

I’ve always wanted the challenge of the Theatre By The Lake season in Keswick, three plays in rep, two rehearsed concurrently and the third rehearsing during the day while we perform either of the other two in the evening… definitely a challenge to keep your head in the right play on the right day. I couldn’t be happier with the plays or the diversity of characters I get to be. In Ladykillers I’m the trusty PC McDonald, as well as the redoubtable Mrs (yes, MRS) Tromelyton. In Little Voice I play Ray Say, a part I saw Pete Postlethwaite play in the original production at the National Theatre (in 1992) and was played by Michael Caine in the film (no pressure then!). Lastly, I’m Dr Ash in Dear Uncle, this is Ayckbourn’s adaptation of Uncle Vanya. Both writers have a remarkable insight into the plight of people trapped in their own lives by fear and loneliness and are still able to have a laugh at the same time, though this is at the more serious end of Ayckbourn’s work. It’s a pleasure going to work each morning.
